The First Day of the Rest of Your Life

I had an interesting little job recently.  A client of my husband's asked me to illustrate her wedding guests as party favors.  (Lucky for me, it was a relatively small wedding-- only 40!)

The directions were pretty minimal, such as, "so-and-so has black hair and is very elegant, so-and-so is a triathlete with a prosthetic leg".  Well, I agonized (because I always do) but in the end the bride loved them!  I hope the guests liked them-- I'll never really know if any of them resembled anyone, since the wedding was in Texas.
I think the wedding was today.  I wonder how many of these will be on the floor of the car tomorrow! :)

Out of all of them, this one was my favorite, she wanted a portrait of her wedding dress.

  1. Are you kidding? On the floor of the car? One must really be careless to not even think how precious this is. I would have loved to be a wedding guest! These are great and what a fabulous idea. The wedding dress is simply elegant.

  5. Hahahaha! At first I thought you meant how many of the GUESTS would wind up on the floor of the car...you know, it being a wedding and all....

These are FANTASTIC! Oh my goodness, what a memorable and meaningful gift for all the guests. That must have been kind of hard, just going on description alone. But they all have such style and flair and energy. I would be happy to be any one of them! And that is a GORGEOUS dress, too. You are awesome!

  9. Thanks for your visit girlfriend! Well, sorry to disappoint you but I ended up trashing all my sketches for those exercises - I'll probably regret it for posterity, but at the moment I wanted to get them out of my sight! Oh well....

I forgot to tell you your equipment tapestry is awesome - you're so good at those!

  10. What fun and how charming a keepsake! I don't think any should end up on the floor, rather framed and kept. Fun project and great share.

  12. What a great idea!! There's no way they're on the car floor - a true keepsake! The wedding dress is beautiful, but I have to say I like "Bethany" too - she looks like she enjoys life & regularly kick-up her heels!! Well done.
